First days in my EVS experience, Anna

Hello everyone,

First month of Mallorca life behind! Towards the end of October the beach life has changed into a raincoat and wet shoes but the experience keeps growing. I started my volunteering time with several projects including Finca Galatzó, Perrera municipal and Escoleta Santa Ponsa. So far my projects have offered me everything I wanted from my experience: animals, archaeological sites, historical buildings and a possibility to observe a behaviour of a previously unknown group of tiny people. And because one can always do a bit more, in November we start with one more project when our 'Snack & Languages' sessions start in the CUC. Our team, accompanied by some crispy crunchy chocolate cookies, is waiting for YOU. Welcome!

Besides the beginning of our projects, the first weeks included a lot of learning, joy, observing, misunderstandings ('Why no one told me that money is not plata in Spain?!'), redoing stuff, happiness, redoing the same stuff again, succeeding, frustration, paperwork, long walks along the beach and two seasons of Stranger Things from Netflix. In a nutshell I guess one can move to another country, learn a new language, meet new people (whose names are doomed to be vanished from your head as soon as you need them), fit so many experiences in a month and still manage to live the same everyday life with a shopping list to a supermarket in one hand and a smart phone with a Facebook app open in another.


Here’s my first month in pictures!



Finca Galatzó! A stunning place with a lot to be seen. I had the chance to go around the area with an excellent guide. Finca and its surroundings caught my eye and catched my heart since the day 1.



My very first day in la perrera. We picked up a tiny dog who had been caught while wandering in an area of a local finca. Poor doggie had been out for a while and his fur was a one big wig full of fleas, poop and branches. Look at him with his new haircut!

 



Towards the end of October I was surprised by my EVS-fellows who organized my surprise birthday party. A rolling stone gathers no moss!

Hi! This past month I have not written blog because I went to Christmas to Spain and I have not spent much time here. At the beginning of December I was able to visit the Christmas tree that they put next to the cathedral every year, next to a small Christmas market where I bought a couple of things to give to my family. Now in January I have returned, and in the kindergarten there have been two news volunteer girls, from another organization, who come to spend with us 6 weeks, they are from Hungary and Ukraine, they are very nice, and another new volunteer girl has also come from Turkey but she is from my organization, and lives with me, and will be with us all year. These days in the kindergarten we have done some activities since we are quite a few volunteers, for example we have made bracelets with colored threads, we have made origami forms with colored papers, etc. and I wanted to show them a Mallorcan tradition that is celebrated on January 16, where pe

¡Hola, guapos y guapas! I hope that your last month was as nice as mine and that you are enjoying reading our blog and participating a bit in our Mallorca life! January has been full of emotions. I am going to tell you some highlights in a very short way. My 2019 started at high speed: in my free time I continued visiting around both the island and the peninsula. Madrid has been a discovery because I didn't expect at all that it's such a fascinating city. I will go back there for sure! I also took the chance of exploring the neighborhood that let me change my mind again about Mallorca: it's even more wonderful than I already thought. Hi, I'm Levan. Today I start my EVS in Mallorca!

Hello everyone! I am Levan Shanidze, a 23-year-old coming from Tbilisi, Georgia. As my flight day comes day-by-day, I’m slowly getting this alert-feeling of being alive. It’s always nice to change environment, get experience for a while, from another culture, language; it's nice to have expectations – all these googled images, maps, tips - low-key obscureness of what it might look like and knowing that when departure day arrives all will be clear.
