Primeras semanas Europe in Calvià - Marie, Anita, Steve, Michele

¡Hola!

We are Marie, Anita, Steven and Michele from France, Hungary and Italy and we will stay in Mallorca for 8 months. It is really good to be part of an international team where we have the opportunity to learn about each others’ culture, try out new food and share different experiences.

We are participating in a mobility project of the European Union (EVS) as volunteers at the IMEB (Institut Municipal d'Educació i Biblioteques). We will take part in the work of different departments of the Ayuntamiento de Calvià such as nursery schools, environment, youth centres, the ICE (Institut Calvianer Esports), or the CUC (Centre Universitari Calvia). After getting to know all these departments and people, we can say that the majority of the local citizens are really kind and treat us like family members.

On our first week the weather was amazing compared to our home countries: we could even go swimming in the sea, BUT…

In our free time we have visited some beautiful locations in Mallorca. On our first weekend Manon, our supervisor, took us to El Toro, where we discovered the military bunkers of the Second World War, and watched the amazing view of the coast. Next weekend we went on an excursion with María Antònia and her family in Banyalbufar, and then we tried one of the most famous food in Valldemossa, the coca de patata with hot chocolate.

We also went to Palma, the biggest city of Mallorca, where we were walking on the nice streets and visited the wonderful cathedral with its huge rose windows.

Next week we will go to our on-arrival EVS training, but we can’t wait to start working on the projects and discover all the island!

¡Hasta luego!
