Calvià In Europe

No hace apenas un mes que llegué a Vilnius para vivir una nueva experiencia y trabajar por primera vez en una guardería. Decidí hacer un voluntariado para darle un cambio a mi vida, aprender un nuevo idioma y una nueva cultura. Nunca antes había oído hablar de Vilnius, y apenas de Lituania, pero no me importaba mucho el sitio: solo tenía ganas de irme a vivir fuera y, sobre todo, sola. Y así fue. Llevo 3 semanas aquí, pero ya me parece como si llevara más tiempo. Estas primeras semanas aún no he hecho muchas cosas; han sido unas semanas de adaptación a una nueva ciudad, un nuevo clima, muy diferente al mío, a estar lejos de mi familia, etc. Y estos días me he dedicado a explorar los rincones de la ciudad (la catedral, la colina de las tres cruces, iglesias...). Mi nombre es Catalina, fui voluntaria en el Servicio Voluntario Europeo, parte del programa por la juventud de la Comisión Europea. El proyecto en concreto fue “Learning child and youth work in Espoo” en Finlandia desde Septiembre 2018 hasta Julio 2019.  Después de graduarme en la universidad decidí hacer algo diferente puesto que tenía tiempo y algunos ahorros guardados. Ese verano buscando que podía hacer con mi vida encontré este programa. Tenía claro al país que quería ir, Finlandia, ya que estudié Pedagogía y había oído muy positivamente sobre su sistema educativo y lo quería conocer de primera mano. Al no tener muchos ahorros me fije qué condiciones tenía el SVE, muchas veces en otros voluntariados tienes que pagar una tasa y también no me fiaba mucho de las organizaciones, pero en este programa no tenía que pagar nada y además recibía cada mes un poco de dinero (pocket money) para mis gastos, a parte me pagaban el alojamiento, comida, transporte, seguro médico y viaje...

¡Hola, chicos! Recuerdo los primeros días de mi voluntariado europeo como si fuesen ayer. Decidí escoger un proyecto que fuese bien conmigo, un lugar que me gustase y un proyecto que me motivase. En este caso, Finlandia era el país perfecto. Había visitado varias veces Suecia, y es un país que me encanta, con lo cual descubrir un país vecino sabía que sería algo similar a visitar mi país nórdico favorito. El mundo de los VLOGS (vídeo-blogs) es uno que siempre me ha fascinado. Ver a gente compartir sus experiencias es algo que me motiva a la hora realizar mis viajes, pero sobretodo pienso que es algo que se queda allí; un recuerdo que creas tu de forma creativa y que puedes ver las veces que quieras. ¡Hola a todo el mundo! The very last Mallorca days are here! I have packed my belongings, printed my ticket (almost) and started to head my thoughts to the fact that I’m soon back home again. The last few weeks have been really hectic and full of adventures. We travelled across Spain from Valencia to Sevilla, continuing to Cadiz, with a quick stop in Málaga, a monkey business break at Gibraltar, a brief visit in Santander and last but not least, Bilbao. For a person with a museum background, the possibility of finally visiting Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is magnificent! Now I can leave all my Guggenheim traumas behind. I have been there, I have seen it, and I’ve liked it. Besides the adventures, these few last weeks have also been full of goodbyes. I broke my heart while saying goodbye to my escoleta and to my group. I will remember every one of them and carry the memory of their laugh, energy and enthusiasm with me. ¡ Hola, mi querida gente! This month flew as fast as one of several flights I took during this Spanish time. So, here I am at the end of March! Luckily, these days are very busy, so I have no possibility of thinking what will happen when I will leave and how I will feel later. But first, let's go a bit back in time to the last days. It has been a full month. In the elderly centre (and in Mallorca as well) spring has come in advance, so I helped making some decorations for the rooms to cheer up the people living there and bring a little bit of nature inside. That's why I was in charge of making lots and lots of birds... with the origami technique! I totally loved it.              Then the International Day of Women came. It has been interesting seeing how people strongly care about this day and how las mujeres are still fighting to give this festivity a meaning far from flowers or gifts to women. (10 de marzo) ¡Hola! ¡Acabo de volver de vacaciones! He decidido coger casi todos los días que me quedaban para hacer un pequeño viaje de dos semanas por la península y visitar a algun@s voluntari@s que conocí durante la evaluación intermedia en Mollina. He estado en Ferrol, Santander y Málaga, hospedado por l@s voluntari@s que trabajan ahí. Ha sido una gran ocasión para visitar amig@s, conocer gente nueva y ver cómo funcionan otros proyectos de voluntariado europeo. Cada uno se desarrolla de forma diferente y en cada grupo de voluntari@s hay dinámicas y actividades distintas. Me ha parecido genial formar parte de sus vidas durante algunos días y disfrutar de su compañía. Tod@s han sido súper agradables y acogedor@s: me han llevado por todos lados para visitar las ciudades, hemos hecho actividades en grupo, hemos tomado algo junt@s y ¡hemos salido de fiesta! Moikka kaikille, The sun has finally returned and we have been able to enjoy again some nice warm days here in the island. At the end of January we had our mid-term training in Mollina, near Málaga, with 80 other volunteers! It was a great time to know more people and share some experiences. We had a week full of stories about life from different parts of Spain, each one being unique and told by the other volunteers around Europe. In February we also had the chance to make an excursion to one of my projects, in Finca Galatzó. Perfect, sunny day to show this amazing place to my compañeros ! After some work together in the Finca property, we had the chance to pick up oranges and have a traditional Majorcan lunch together in the garden.
